NEWLANDS MEMORIAL

The Newlands memorial is a squat block of granite sited in a small reserve on the corner of Newlands Road and Wakeley Road. It lacks decorative appeal and is easy to overlook when passing by car, but the small reserve area is tidy and well maintained.
The original memorial, built of stone from a quarry at the entry to Newlands, was demolished for road widening onto Ngauranga Gorge. The present memorial was built after the Second World War.

There are nine men designated as killed amongst the total of 62 names on this memorial

J B Barlow, E Briant, F G Cassidy, J C Clark, J Futter, J J H Murray, R G McFarlane,
F McVicar
